Tier 2 – The Nightmancer’s Curse

**Tier 2 play**

In the vibrant realm of Eldoria, where magic pulses through the air like a lively heartbeat, the small village of Rivenwood has been plagued by strange occurrences. Once a tranquil settlement surrounded by emerald forests and shimmering lakes, whispers of unease have begun to spread. The townsfolk report flickering lights in the woods at night, shadows that cross paths without bodies to cast them, and an ominous fog that seems to breathe with malice.

Your adventurers arrive just as the sun begins to dip below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of crimson and gold. The scent of warm bread from the local bakery mixes with the crisp evening air, a stark contrast to the tension that continues to grip Rivenwood. Villagers gather in hushed circles, their worry etched on their faces. A particularly elderly woman approaches, her gnarled hands clasped tightly around a weathered staff.

"Adventurers," she implores, her voice quavering. "A malevolent presence has invaded our home. We fear it is the work of the Nightmancer, a sorcerer long thought banished. He wields dark magic, harnessing the nightmares of our children to twist them into abominations that terrorize our nights. Please, will you help us rid this blight?"

As you accept the villagers' plea for help, the journey leads you deep into the heart of the Mistwood Grove, a forest shrouded in mystery, where fey creatures play tricks on hapless wanderers. The closer you get to the heart of the grove, the denser the fog becomes, swirling around your feet like a living thing, filled with the echoes of distant laughter and cries.

Your party must navigate through enchanted barriers, avoiding the illusions that threaten to lead them astray. They encounter mischievous sprites and encounter a wise old treant who, after a test of wit, provides them with a riddle that, if solved, will unveil the path to the Nightmancer's lair.

**Encounter: Nightmancer's Lair**

As you reach a clearing, the mist parts to reveal a decrepit tower, the Nightmancer's lair, surrounded by a swirling vortex of dark energy. The air crackles with tension, and you can feel the weight of potent magic pressing down on you. The ground beneath your feet seems to pulse, alive with malevolence.

**Boss Enemy: Nightmancer**

– **HP:** 100

– **AC:** 15

– **Spellcasting:** Can cast spells like *Fear*, *Shadow Blade*, and *Darkness*.

– **Special Ability:** Nightmare Manifestation – Summons one shadow creature (use stats of a Shadow) for every 20 HP lost.

The Nightmancer, cloaked in tattered robes that seem to merge with the shadows, confronts your party. He sneers, "You think you can disrupt my work? I draw power from their fears, and you are just the next puppets I will bend to my will!"

As the battle commences, the party must work together, using their unique abilities to overcome the Nightmancer's dark magic and his shadowy minions. The environment plays a crucial role, with shadows that can conceal allies or enemies, creating an ever-shifting battlefield.

Victory over the Nightmancer will not only liberate Rivenwood from his grasp but may also unravel the secrets of the ancient magic he wielded, revealing a deeper plot that could extend beyond the village. The townsfolk will be forever grateful, and possibly even reward the heroes with a magical artifact that hums with untapped potential—a ring that grants visions of possible futures, creating ripples of intrigue for future adventures.
