Tier 2 – Veil of Shadows The Darkness in Elden Hollow

**Tier 2 play**

In the vibrant realm of Eldoria, where magic flows as freely as the rivers and the skies shimmer with the colors of the aurora, a shadow has begun to creep across the land. The once-bustling town of Elden Hollow, known for its grand festivals and joyous gatherings, now lies shrouded in an unsettling silence. Whispers of a mysterious cult, known as the Veil of Shadows, have spread like wildfire, instilling fear in the hearts of its residents.

As the sun sets, casting an orange hue over the cobblestone streets, the party finds themselves summoned to the town square by the mayor, a stout dwarf named Borin Stonefist. His eyes, usually filled with mirth, now reflect worry. "Adventurers," he begins, his voice trembling, "our town has been plagued by strange occurrences. People have gone missing, and those who remain speak of dark rituals performed under the cover of night. We need your help to uncover the truth and put an end to this terror."

The party learns that the cult has been gathering in the ancient ruins just outside of town, where the remnants of a long-forgotten temple stand. The townsfolk believe that the cult is attempting to summon a powerful entity from the Shadow Realm, and time is of the essence. The adventurers must investigate the ruins, gather clues, and confront the cultists before it’s too late.

As they approach the temple, the air grows thick with an unnatural chill. Vines, twisted and blackened, creep up the stone walls, and the faint sound of chanting echoes through the air. The entrance is guarded by two cultists clad in dark robes, their faces obscured by hoods. They wield wicked daggers, their eyes glinting with fanaticism.

**Cultist Stats:**

– **HP:** 20

– **AC:** 12

– **Attack:** Dagger (+4 to hit, 1d4+2 piercing damage)

Inside the temple, the adventurers will encounter a series of puzzles and traps designed to protect the cult’s secrets. They must navigate through a hall of mirrors that distorts reality, decipher ancient runes that speak of the cult’s dark intentions, and avoid pitfalls that lead to shadowy voids.

As they delve deeper, they discover a hidden chamber where the cult leader, a sinister figure known as High Priestess Morwen, prepares to complete a dark ritual. Morwen, a powerful spellcaster, seeks to bind the entity known as the Shadow Wraith to her will.

**High Priestess Morwen Stats:**

– **HP:** 50

– **AC:** 15

– **Spellcasting:** Can cast spells such as *Darkness*, *Hold Person*, and *Shadow Blade*.

– **Special Ability:** Shadow Step – Once per turn, she can teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet that she can see.

The final confrontation will test the party’s resolve and teamwork as they face Morwen and her cultists. The chamber is filled with dark energy, and the very shadows seem to come alive, swirling around the combatants. The adventurers must disrupt the ritual, defeat Morwen, and free the town from the grip of the Veil of Shadows.

As the dust settles and the last echoes of battle fade, the party will emerge victorious, bringing light back to Elden Hollow. The townsfolk will celebrate their bravery, and the adventurers will leave with newfound treasures and tales of their heroic deeds, ready for their next adventure in the ever-expanding world of Eldoria.
