Tier 2 – The Apprentice and the Ethereal Genie

**Tier 2 play**

In the vibrant realm of Eldoria, where magic flows as freely as the rivers and the skies shimmer with the colors of the aurora, a curious tale unfolds. The party finds themselves in the bustling market square of Celestia, a city renowned for its enchanting wares and mystical beings. The air is thick with the scent of exotic spices and the sound of laughter mingles with the melodic tunes played by street performers.

As the sun begins to set, casting a golden hue over the cobblestone streets, a commotion arises near the fountain at the center of the square. A crowd gathers, their faces a mix of awe and fear. At the heart of the spectacle stands a young human, his eyes wide with excitement and trepidation. He is addressing a magnificent figure—a towering, ethereal genie, shimmering with hues of blue and gold, his presence commanding yet benevolent.

“Umm, this is all gonna sound very strange coming from a lowly human, Mr. Genie, sir,” the boy stammers, “but ever since I read about your tales as a kid, I've always wanted to become a wish-granting genie myself when I grow up! So… Master, please take me as your apprentice!”

The genie, amused yet intrigued, considers the boy's request. However, before he can respond, a dark shadow looms over the square. A sinister figure, cloaked in tattered robes, emerges from the alleyways, his eyes glinting with malice. It is Zalthor, a rogue sorcerer who seeks to harness the genie’s power for his own nefarious purposes.

### Adventure Hook:

The party must intervene as Zalthor attempts to capture the genie, believing that by binding him, he can control the very fabric of wishes. The crowd gasps, and the boy’s plea for mentorship hangs in the air, a symbol of hope amidst the chaos.

### Objectives:

1. **Protect the Genie**: The party must defend the genie from Zalthor’s magical onslaught and prevent him from being captured.

2. **Investigate Zalthor's Motives**: As the battle unfolds, clues about Zalthor’s past and his obsession with the genie can be uncovered, leading to a deeper understanding of his motivations.

3. **Explore the City**: After the confrontation, the party can explore Celestia to gather information, seek allies, or discover ancient artifacts that may help them in their quest.

### Encounter: Zalthor the Sorcerer

– **HP**: 45

– **AC**: 15

– **Attack**:

– **Shadow Bolt**: +5 to hit, 2d6 necrotic damage.

– **Spellcasting**: Can cast spells like *Mage Armor*, *Magic Missile*, and *Hold Person*.

– **Special Ability**: **Dark Veil** – Once per encounter, Zalthor can become invisible for one turn, allowing him to reposition or escape.

### Conclusion:

Should the party succeed in thwarting Zalthor, they will earn the gratitude of the genie, who may offer them a single wish as a reward. The boy, inspired by their bravery, may also join them on their adventures, eager to learn the ways of magic and heroism.

This one-shot is designed to be flexible, allowing the Dungeon Master to adapt encounters and challenges based on the party's actions and decisions, fostering a dynamic and engaging storytelling experience in the magical world of Eldoria.
