Tier 2 – The Wraith of the Forgotten (2)

**Tier 2 play**

In the vibrant realm of Eldoria, where the skies shimmer with hues of violet and gold, a peculiar disturbance has rippled through the tranquil village of Eldenwood. The townsfolk, once filled with laughter and joy, now whisper of a shadow that looms over their homes—a series of mysterious disappearances that have left the community in a state of panic.

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting long shadows across the cobblestone streets, the party finds themselves drawn to the heart of Eldenwood. The air is thick with the scent of blooming nightshade and the distant sound of a lute being played mournfully. The villagers gather around the flickering light of the central bonfire, their faces etched with worry. They speak of a dark figure seen lurking near the ancient ruins on the outskirts of the village, where the remnants of an old temple dedicated to the goddess of fate lie crumbling.

The party is approached by the village elder, a wise woman named Elara, her silver hair glowing in the firelight. With a trembling voice, she implores the adventurers to investigate the ruins and uncover the truth behind the disappearances. She believes that a malevolent spirit, once sealed within the temple, has been awakened and now seeks vengeance on the living.

As the party makes their way to the ruins, the path winds through a dense forest, where the trees seem to whisper secrets and the ground is carpeted with luminescent fungi. The atmosphere grows heavier, and the air crackles with magic. Upon reaching the temple, they find it overgrown with vines and shrouded in an eerie mist.

Inside, the air is thick with the scent of damp earth and ancient stone. The walls are adorned with faded murals depicting the goddess and her battles against dark forces. However, a chilling presence lingers, and the party soon encounters the source of the disturbance: a vengeful spirit known as the Wraith of the Forgotten.

**Wraith of the Forgotten**

– **Attack:** Ethereal Touch (Melee Attack: +5 to hit, 2d8 necrotic damage)

– **Special Ability:** Haunting Whispers (All creatures within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of their next turn.)

– **Legendary Action:** Shadow Step (The Wraith can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.)

The Wraith, a swirling mass of shadow and sorrow, seeks to reclaim its lost power by feeding on the life force of the living. As the party engages in battle, they must also navigate the temple's traps and puzzles, which are remnants of the goddess's protective magic.

To defeat the Wraith, the party must uncover the truth of its past—discovering that it was once a guardian of the temple, betrayed by those it sought to protect. Only by restoring the balance and offering a token of remembrance can they hope to quell the spirit’s rage and free the village from its grasp.

As the adventurers delve deeper into the temple, they will find clues and artifacts that reveal the history of the Wraith, allowing them to piece together a way to confront it not just with steel, but with understanding and compassion.

Will they succeed in their quest to save Eldenwood, or will they become yet another tale lost to the shadows of the Wraith of the Forgotten? The fate of the village lies in their hands.
