Tier 2 – The Amulet of Loria

**Tier 2 play**

In the glittering kingdom of Eldoria, a realm awash in magic and ancient mysteries, rumors swirl like leaves in a tempest. Whispers of a forgotten treasure, once safeguarded by an enigmatic sorceress, have begun to ripple through taverns and marketplaces, igniting the imagination of adventurers far and wide. This tale leads your party to the quaint village of Larkhaven, where the scent of fresh bread mingles with the vibrant colors of enchanted flowers.

The task is simple yet daunting: retrieve the Amulet of Loria, said to grant its bearer unprecedented powers. However, the amulet lies hidden within the Thistledown Forest, an ethereal expanse where reality seems to shift like the wind. Shadows lurk among the trees, and the very air thrums with palpable magic.

Upon arriving at the outskirts of Thistledown Forest, the players are greeted by a massive archway woven from shimmering vines that glows faintly with arcane energy. An ancient inscription above reads, “Only those pure of heart may pass.” As the party ventures deeper, they encounter a series of enchanting, yet challenging, obstacles.

**Encounters:**

1. **Illusory Paths:** The forest shifts and changes, presenting false trails that mislead the party. Wisdom (perception) checks are needed to discern the truth, where failure could lead to confusion and wandering in circles.

2. **Friendly Forest Spirits:** The party may come across whimsical, tiny spirits called Feylings, who share cryptic riddles. Solving their riddles rewards the players with buffs for upcoming encounters, while failure to appease the Feylings may result in a mischievous curse or minor spell being cast upon them.

3. **The Guardian of the Amulet:** Before reaching the amulet, the party must confront the awakened spirit of the sorceress, Sylphania, who has become a formidable spectral opponent. Torn between her duty to protect the amulet and her desire for companionship, she engages the party with ghostly magic and illusions.

**Boss Enemy Stats:**

– **Name:** Sylphania, Spirit of Thistledown

– **Type:** Undead

– **Armor Class:** 15

– **Hit Points:** 75

– **Attack:** Ethereal Touch (Melee Spell Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) psychic damage.)

– **Special Ability:** Illusionary Veil – once per combat, Sylphania can create three illusory duplicates of herself. Each duplicate takes damage as if they were her, requiring the players to discern which is the true enemy.

As the confrontation draws on, Sylphania’s resolve begins to falter, revealing her tragic story and her connection to the amulet. Should the party prevail, they have the opportunity to either claim the Amulet of Loria for their own or convince Sylphania to bestow it unto them willingly, learning that true power lies in compassion and understanding.

Once the amulet is secured, the party discovers a hidden path leading to a glade bathed in moonlight, a sanctified space where they can restore their energies and reflect on their journey. The evanescent beauty of the Thistledown Forest transforms into a memory, leaving the adventurers with a lingering sense of wonder as they return to Larkhaven—changed and emboldened by their exploits.

This one-shot can be tailored to fit various character backgrounds and motivations, allowing for creative interactions and role-playing opportunities, ensuring your players embark on a high magic, high fantasy adventure that resonates long after the dice have been rolled.
