Tier 2 – The Laughter of Tyranny

**Tier 2 play**

In the vibrant realm of Eldoria, where magic flows like the rivers and fantastical creatures roam the lands, a dark cloud looms over the once-peaceful village of Willowbrook. The villagers whisper tales of a tyrant known as Lord Malakar, a dictator whose iron grip has stifled their freedoms. Yet, in a bizarre twist, he is also renowned for his sharp wit and uproarious stand-up comedy, drawing crowds even as he oppresses them.

Your party finds themselves in Willowbrook, summoned by the desperate townsfolk who seek to reclaim their home from Malakar's clutches. As you arrive, the air is thick with tension, but the scent of roasted meats and sweet pastries wafts from the marketplace, a stark contrast to the villagers’ grim expressions.

The villagers explain that Malakar has taken residence in the grand, crumbling castle atop the hill, where he hosts nightly comedy shows that serve as a cover for his nefarious plans. They plead with you to infiltrate the castle during one of his performances, gather evidence of his tyranny, and ultimately confront him.

As night falls, the castle’s torches flicker to life, casting eerie shadows on the stone walls. You make your way through the winding paths of the castle grounds, the sounds of laughter and applause echoing from within. The grand hall is filled with nobles and commoners alike, all captivated by Malakar’s charm and humor.

**Exploration Component:**

– As you navigate through the castle, you can search for hidden passages or secret rooms. Roll for perception to discover a hidden trapdoor behind a tapestry that leads to the dungeons, where Malakar keeps his prisoners.

**Investigation Component:**

– While in the hall, gather information from the audience. Roll for persuasion or deception to blend in and learn about Malakar’s plans. Perhaps you overhear a conversation about a secret weapon he’s developing to further tighten his grip on the region.

**Enemy Encounter:**

When the time comes to confront Malakar, he stands before you, a charismatic figure draped in opulent robes, his laughter ringing through the hall. But beneath that facade lies a cunning and ruthless leader.

**Boss Enemy: Lord Malakar**

– **HP:** 80

– **AC:** 15

– **Attack:**

– **Comedy Blast:** Ranged spell attack, +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 2d8 + 4 psychic damage and the target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or be incapacitated with laughter until the end of their next turn.

– **Dictator’s Command:** Once per encounter, Malakar can force one creature to make a Charisma saving throw (DC 15) or be charmed for 1 minute, obeying his commands.

As the confrontation unfolds, the party must balance their combat prowess with the need to expose Malakar’s true nature to the audience. Will they defeat the tyrant and liberate Willowbrook, or will they fall victim to his charm and wit? The fate of the village hangs in the balance, and the laughter of the crowd may soon turn to cries for justice.
